What is a Competency Model? John Spacey, updated on
A competency model is a framework that describes the abilities, knowledge and skills required to perform business functions. This is used to standardize and improve recruiting, training & development, performance management, career planning, succession planning and other human resources processes. In its simplest form, a competency model is a list of skills. These may be organized into a hierarchical structure of categories. A system for rating skills according to a scale may also be included.
