Personal attitudes are foundational ways of thinking and feeling. In other words, they are broad patterns of sustained thought that have both an emotional and cognitive nature. Attitudes change with time and situation and are a means for people to adapt. The following are common personal attitudes.

MindsetsA mindset is a fundamental approach to thinking at a point in time. This can be an intuitive or emotional approach such as positive or negative thinking. It is also common for a mindset to be unemotional such as a logical or analytical way of thinking.Social AttitudesAttitudes towards other people. This is situational whereby a person may be outgoing in situations where they feel comfortable and more reserved in other situations. Social attitudes also include mature capacities such as being humble or forgiving.Cultural AttitudesPersonal attitudes that an individual gains from their participation in culture including national culture, traditional cultures and modern cultures such as youth cultures.Lifestyle AttitudesAttitudes for how to live life. This includes how you prioritize your time and other resources such as being family-oriented or pursuing adventure. Lifestyle attitudes also include life philosophies such as minimalism or lifelong learning.Professional AttitudesApproaches to work. This includes positive character traits that are highly valued by employers such as being dependable, responsible and committed. Professional attitudes also include realities of how an individual works such as process-oriented individuals who prefer structure and goal-oriented individuals who can find their own path to achieving things.Political AttitudesThe political ideology adopted by an individual or unique political perspectives an individual may develop for themselves. For example, a conservative individual who values continuity with the past or a progressive individual who prioritizes an aggressive pace of change.Philosophical AttitudesAttitudes towards the big questions in life such as the nature of existence, justice and meaning. This includes general approaches to life such as trying to be selfless or the adoption of actual philosophies.Personal Attitudes vs Group AttitudesPersonal attitudes are established by an individual and may be somewhat unique to that individual. Group attitudes originate with groups such as societies, cultures, communities or families. Generally speaking, group attitudes play a heavy role in shaping personal attitudes as attitudes are transmitted by membership in groups such as a nation or family.Next read: Personal Principles
