An information silo is an isolated data repository that hides information or is out of sync with more authoritative copies of information. It is a common architectural condition that often represents an operational inefficiency and risk. Teams tend to create their own versions of data entities and documents that ideally could be shared across an organization. In many cases, large, highly political organizations that lack a productive data governance program have significant problems with information silos. For example, customer data that is replicated inaccurately can lead to compliance issues and customer service failures.
