Pessimism is the practice of looking at things from a negative perspective. It can be a personality trait or deliberate practice designed to identify risk.Defeatism is the practice of looking at a current strategy or battle as hopeless.
Pessimism vs DefeatismPessimism is potentially a positive thing as it helps to identify risks before they become issues and failures. Even if you're personality is optimistic, considering a pessimistic view before commencing on a major strategy may be a good practice.Generally speaking, defeatism has far greater negative connotations than pessimism. It implies that you are engaged in a strategy without any passion for winning. Defeatism can sabotage the efforts of a team and make personal strategies somewhat meaningless. Rethinking a strategy once in a while is only intelligent. Engaging in a strategy you believe is hopeless is questionable and uninspired.|
