What is Drip Marketing?

 , updated on
Drip marketing is a technique that sends a regular stream of advertising to each customer over a long period of time. The term originates with drip irrigation, a method of irrigating crops with small but regular amounts of water. Drip marketing has its roots in direct marketing practices such as a daily newsletter by email, weekly coupons in a newspaper or seasonal catalog in the mail. It's currently an equally common technique in areas such as behavioral targeting of ads and social media marketing.
