A capability analysis is an examination of organizational capabilities. Capabilities describe what a business does without the implementation details of processes that describe how business is conducted.
Analysis may look at existing business capabilities or future capabilities that support a business strategy. It is common to examine capabilities at the organizational, department, team and individual level. The purpose of capability analysis is to focus on what a business does without including the implementation details of processes and procedures. In many cases, a business is examined in the order: why, what, how. Why is business strategy. What is a business capability. How is a process.
