Haute couture, literally "high dressmaking", is a French term for high end fashion that is custom designed or fitted for customers. The term has protected status in France and requires conformance to certain standards and approval by a government agency to use. Beyond Paris, other fashion capitals use the same term or similar terms such as Bespoke tailoring.
