What is Management By Design?

Management by design is the practice of managing by creating things. It is a management style that focuses on the design of jobs, team cultures, performance expectations, measurements, processes, checklists, communications and anything else that helps a manager accomplish a set of objectives. Management by design is a diverse management style with some managers focusing on the design of quantitative tools such as metrics and others on qualitative initiatives such as team culture. The commonality is in the use of design thinking as the core approach to management problems.
